POSITION SUMMARY:
“ENTRY LEVEL” performs assignments as an entry level wildland firefighter crew member in developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices, and terminology. These members may assist in more specialized assignments such as structural firefighting, rescue operations, emergency medical operations and others. Training opportunities will be available for specialized assignments. This is a full-time, seasonal position.

- Successful applicants will be required to take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level
- Valid Driver’s license at time of hire
- Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening
Desired Qualifications:

Prior Firefighting experience in wildland and/or structural fire
- Completion of NWCG S-130, S-190, L-180
- Forestry/logging experience, or other experience with hand and power tools
- EMT- Basic

Firefighter/ Paramedic
Salary: $72,828-$87,804 annually, increasing to $75,744-$91,320 on July 1, 2025
Benefits: 6% employee PERS paid by District, District matches up to 5% of deferred
compensation (457), District pays 90% of medical/ vision/ dental
premium with additional contributions to VEBA

The District is testing to fill 1 position, and to establish a hiring list for future employment.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is for a 56-hour employee, working a 1/3/2/3 (24 on 72 off 48 on 72 off) schedule. The position provides a variety of general and technical skills in the field of emergency medical response, fire suppression, hazardous materials, rescue, and fire prevention activities. The district has 12 full-time, 10 part-time and around 50 volunteer employees, as well as a Wildland Division consisting of 10 permanent full-time, 4-10/2 seasonal, and 12 summer seasonal employees. It is a proactive combination department where career and volunteer firefighters work closely together. The district serves a population of around 19,000 which includes the City of Sweet Home at 10,000 residents. It covers a very diverse area, situated at the base of the Cascade Mountains in East Linn County. The area includes Foster and Green Peter Reservoir’s, both excellent recreation lakes. It lies close to metropolitan areas just one hour from Eugene and Salem. The district runs about 3400 calls for service annually.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a high school graduate or have a GED equivalent
Must be NFPA Firefighter 1 and NFPA Haz/Mat (First Responder) Operations*
Must be certified as NFPA Driver or equivalent*
Must have a current State of Oregon Paramedic License or be able to obtain by the date of hire*
Must have a current Health Care Provider CPR certification*
Must possess a valid driver’s license*, and be insurable
Must pass a physical exam, mandatory drug screen test and criminal history background check

Residency Requirement:
Permanent Employees are required to reside within 12 miles of station 21 within 1 year of the beginning
